The Bachelor of Industrial Art and Design program is a dynamic and innovative program that prepares students for careers in the exciting field of industrial design. This interdisciplinary program combines elements of art, design, engineering, and technology to develop well-rounded professionals who can create functional and aesthetically appealing products that enhance everyday life.
UCE and UACE Certificates with 2 Principle passes, or Diploma from a recognized Institution of Higher Learning in a relevant discipline.
Prospective applicants whose final high school grades are in percentages and average points system e.g. Sudan, DRC, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia and others must have their grades first equated or standardized by Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) before admission to YMCA Comprehensive Institute.
Kenyan applicants for degree programmes should hold either;
The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) holders must have a minimum Grade of C+ and above, OR
The Kenyan Advanced Certificate of Education “GCE or A-levels” applicants must have at least 2 principal passes or its equivalent.
Integrated Design Approach: The program emphasizes a holistic approach to design, integrating aesthetics, functionality, ergonomics, sustainability, and user experience to create innovative and practical products that meet the needs of users and markets.
Design Studios and Workspaces: Students have access to well-equipped design studios, workshops, and cutting-edge technology, allowing them to bring their ideas to life through prototyping and model-making. The creative and collaborative environment inspires students to push the boundaries of design.
Industry Engagement and Projects: The program fosters strong ties with industry partners, providing students with opportunities to collaborate on real-world projects and gain invaluable industry experience. Through internships and industry placements, students develop a deep understanding of the professional design process and build networks within the industry.
Expert Faculty: The program is led by a team of experienced faculty who are accomplished designers and industry professionals. They bring their practical insights, expertise, and industry connections into the classroom, providing students with mentorship and guidance throughout their studies.
Design Thinking and Innovation: The program places a strong emphasis on design thinking methodologies, enabling students to identify problems, generate innovative ideas, and develop user-centered solutions. NOTE:
A UGX 20,000 NCHE Fee is paid annually and directly to the National Council for Higher Education by the applicant upon enrolment.
Hostel accommodation for male and female students is available at Buwambo Campus at a fee of UGX 550,000 per quarter (Inclusive of accommodation and meals).
All students in the hostel will be required to bring toiletries.
