A Certificate in Guidance and Counselling is a program designed to provide students with foundational knowledge and skills in the field of counselling and guidance. This certificate program typically covers a range of subjects related to counselling theories, communication skills, psychological assessment, and ethical practices.
O’level and above.
Counselling Theories: Students gain an understanding of various counselling theories and approaches, such as psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, and solution-focused. They learn about the key concepts, techniques, and applications of these theories in the counselling process.
Communication Skills: The program emphasizes the development of effective communication skills necessary for counselling. Students learn active listening, empathy, non-verbal communication, and verbal intervention techniques. They gain skills in building rapport, establishing trust, and maintaining professional boundaries.
Psychological Assessment: Students learn about the principles and practices of psychological assessment in counselling. They gain knowledge of different assessment tools and techniques used to evaluate clients’ psychological functioning, personality traits, and mental health conditions. Students learn to interpret assessment results and use them to inform counselling interventions.
Ethical and Professional Practices: The certificate program covers ethical guidelines and professional standards in counselling. NOTE:
A UGX 20,000 NCHE Fee is paid annually and directly to the National Council for Higher Education by the applicant upon enrolment.
Hostel accommodation for male and female students is available at Buwambo Campus at a fee of UGX 550,000 per quarter (Inclusive of accommodation and meals).
All students in the hostel will be required to bring toiletries.
