A Certificate in Elementary Tailoring is a program designed to provide students with basic skills and knowledge in the field of tailoring and garment construction. This certificate program typically covers a range of subjects related to sewing techniques, pattern making, fabric selection, and garment fitting.

Program Highlights

Sewing Basics: Students learn fundamental sewing techniques, including how to operate a sewing machine, thread a needle, and sew basic stitches. They gain skills in handling fabric, sewing seams, and finishing edges.

Pattern Reading and Cutting: The program covers the basics of reading and interpreting sewing patterns. Students learn to identify pattern markings, select appropriate pattern sizes, and cut fabric based on pattern instructions. They gain skills in understanding pattern layout and fabric grainlines.

Garment Construction: Students learn step-by-step techniques for constructing basic garments. They gain skills in sewing darts, attaching collars, cuffs, and sleeves, inserting zippers or buttons, and hemming garments. They practice garment assembly through hands-on projects.

Fabric Selection and Characteristics: The certificate program introduces students to different types of fabrics and their characteristics. Students learn about fabric properties, such as drape, stretch, and weight. They gain an understanding of fabric selection based on garment style and design.

Basic Alterations and Repairs: Students learn basic alteration and repair techniques. They gain skills in taking measurements, adjusting garment fit, and making minor alterations to achieve desired sizing and proportions. Students also learn techniques for mending and repairing garments.

YEAR 1 QUARTER 1

TAC101 – Fundamentals of Handcraft Tailoring (3CU):

Fundamentals of Handcraft Tailoring is a course that focuses on developing practical skills in handcraft tailoring. Students will learn about the basic techniques and materials used in handcraft tailoring, such as fabric selection, pattern making, and garment construction. They will develop their skills in designing and creating handcrafted garments.

TAC102 – English Language (3CU):

English Language is a course that focuses on developing language skills for academic and professional purposes. Students will learn about various language processes and techniques, including grammar, vocabulary, and communication skills. The course aims to enhance students’ ability to communicate effectively in English in different settings.

TAC103 – Basic Pattern Drafting I (4CU):

Basic Pattern Drafting I is a course that focuses on developing practical skills in pattern drafting for fashion design. Students will learn about the principles and techniques of pattern making, including measurements, pattern manipulation, and drafting basic blocks. They will develop their skills in creating patterns for basic garments.

FDC121 – Pattern Drafting I (3CU):

Pattern Drafting I is a course that focuses on developing practical skills in pattern drafting for fashion design. Students will learn about the principles and techniques of pattern making, including measurements, pattern manipulation, and drafting basic blocks. They will develop their skills in creating patterns for garments.

FDC122 – Garment Construction I (3CU):

Garment Construction I is a course that focuses on developing practical skills in constructing garments. Students will learn about the principles and techniques of garment construction, including sewing techniques, fabric handling, and finishing. They will develop their skills in constructing garments based on the patterns they have created.

 


YEAR 1 QUARTER 3

TAC107 – Pattern Drafting Adaptation (4CU):

Pattern Drafting Adaptation is a course that focuses on developing advanced skills in pattern drafting for fashion design. Students will learn about advanced pattern making techniques, such as adapting patterns for different body types, creating custom fit garments, and modifying existing patterns. They will develop their skills in adapting patterns to meet specific design requirements.

TAC108 – Basic Garment Construction II (4CU):

Basic Garment Construction II is a course that focuses on further developing practical skills in constructing garments. Building upon the knowledge gained in Basic Garment Construction I, students will learn more advanced garment construction techniques, such as tailoring, couture sewing, and advanced finishing techniques. They will apply their knowledge and skills to construct more complex garments.

TAC109 – Basic Tailoring Technology (3CU):

Basic Tailoring Technology is a course that focuses on developing practical skills in tailoring techniques for fashion design. Students will learn about the principles and techniques of tailoring, including fitting, shaping, and altering garments. They will develop their skills in creating well-fitted and professionally finished garments.

TAC110 – Decorative Design (3CU):

Decorative Design is a course that focuses on developing practical skills in decorative design for fashion. Students will learn about various decorative design techniques, such as embroidery, applique, beading, and surface embellishments. They will develop their skills in incorporating decorative elements into their fashion designs to enhance aesthetics and create unique and visually appealing garments.
